Sara Palin – The World’s Most Dangerous Flutist?

The most popular woman in America right now – Sara Palin, John McCain’s vice presidential running mate – is a talented flutist!

Yes, that’s right! The controversial gun-loving, environment-destroying, right-wing pin-up who charmed the hearts of middle-America and fascinated the world, has at least one hidden talent – the flute!

In 1984, Sara entered the Miss Alaska beauty pageant and earned second place as well as the Miss Congeniality title. Her talent? None other than playing the flute!

She was drawn to the pageant scene when she needed money for college. Her parents, both teachers, had four children in college at the same time. Sara needed money for tuition.

Although she wasn’t going to major in music in college, her talent with playing the flute helped secure her college degree.

The dangerous prospect of deadly duo McCain-Palin winning the USA elections in a couple of weeks time seems to be fading, but still, maybe the world would still be a safer and cleaner place if people like Sara Palin stuck with their musical instruments or other artistic interests rather than becoming politicians…so here’s a thought for parents: nurture your children musical interests and don’t let them ever give up!

Playing a wind instrument can help sufferers of Asthma

Asthma is serious; 5.1 million people in the UK have asthma, every 7 hours someone in the UK dies from asthma. 75% of hospital admissions due to asthma are avoidable (source – Asthma UK). Learning to play a wind instrument teaches the sufferer to breathe properly and can also improve lung function. Therefore, when asthmatics get an attack they are less likely to panic. People who rely on inhalers or even steroid treatment to stave off their breathlessness and panic attacks can minimise the impact asthma has on their lives – naturally. Recent research found significant improvement in the condition of children with asthma who learned to play wind instruments.
