FARMINGDALE, NY, January 19, 2006 – The Rico Reed Vitalizer has made a name for itself as one of the top reed storage devices in history, and now Rico has made the Reed Vitalizer even better with some design modifications that further enhance its most attractive features.
In addition to new artwork for the Reed Vitalizers packaging, the Reed Vitalizer control bag has been resized, and the smaller dimensions allow it to more easily fit inside instrument cases. The humidity control packs are now packaged in a special foil wrapper that lengthens their shelf life and ensures that theyre always ready to go.
The Reed Vitalizer uses a patented Humidipak two-way humidity control system to self adjust in any climate, keeping the reeds inside at the perfect humidity, which ensures that they play consistently from day to day. Reed Vitalizer control packs are available in three humidity levels (58%, 73%, and 84%) for either storage or daily use, and prevent warpage, keeping reed tips flat. Each control pack lasts between 45 and 60 days, and are simply replaced when they become hard. Each control bag comes with one control pack, and replacement control packs are available in single refills. A display rack for Reed Vitalizer products is also available; it holds both control bags and refill packs and is perfect for wall or countertop display.
“Woodwind musicians know that the same reed can perform differently from day to day,” remarks Rico Brand Manager Robert Polan. “Storing reeds in the Reed Vitalizer ends that. A reed stored in the Reed Vitalizer will play consistently from day to day. It’s an immense improvement for players and our new design modifications make the Reed Vitalizer even more handy to have around. It’s quickly becoming an indispensable part of woodwind players’ gear.
Two-way Humidity Control for reeds
Reed Vitalizer offers maintenance-free reed storage. The patented Humidipak technology uses two-way humidity control to keep your reed tips flat and prevent cracking and warping. Reed Vitalizer control packs will last 45-60 days. When the pack becomes hard, discard and replace with a new pack.

The Walrus was…Sara.
Proving that humans are not the only mammals who appreciate the joys of sax, Sara has been awing the crowds at the newly-opened Dolphinarium (no relation to us!) in Istanbul, Turkey.

Pete Long clarinet
With a musical career that has spanned six decades, Quincy Jones has earned his reputation as a renaissance man of American music. Bandleader, solo artist, songwriter, producer, arranger, and film composer, his phenomenal CV reads like a who’s who of contemporary music – Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Michael Jackson, Peggy Lee, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin all feature.
Tonight the Big Band takes a trip through Quincy’s impressive back catalogue in the company of clarinettist Pete Long, whose dulcet tones feature so prominently in the Stereophonics’ version of Handbags and Gladrags (aka the theme from The Office). Along the way, they’ll revisit such classics as Fly Me To The Moon, Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough and Jones’ own fabulous disco stomper Ai No Corrida!

The latest addition to the flagship Custom EX Saxophone range is the new YSS875EXHG, the first Yamaha soprano sax incorporating a high G key. Designed in collaboration with World class Saxophonists such as Jean-Yves Formeau and Nobuya Sugawa, the new saxophone features the same exceptional sound characteristics and playability of the non-high G model but with an extended range.
By incorporating an additional key to an existing model which is already well balanced and has perfect intonation and tonal focus, you run the risk off affecting its playing characteristics due to the additional weight of the key and it’s mechanism. Therefore the new High G Custom EX soprano has been redesigned to reduce weight in certain areas including some changes to the body and key work, which has resulted in the saxophone having the same great playing feel and characteristics of the non-high G model. Many high G soprano saxophones suffer with a weaker lower register with some notes speaking very poorly but the new Yamaha EX Custom has excellent intonation and evenness throughout it’s entire range, from the very bottom of it’s register to the highest altissimo.
